More Information

When Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, died prematurely in 1861 at age 42, Victoria ordered that a fifteenth-century chapel at Windsor Castle be renovated and dedicated to her late husband; she opened it to the public in 1875. Visitors then, as now, marveled at the white marble effigy of the Prince Consort and the opulent interior of the chapel.
