More Information

Nauplia, which means ‘naval station,’ has at various times been under Greek, Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Turkish control. Traces of these various cultural influences can be found in the architectural styles of Nauplia’s castles and fortifications. Since the seat of Greek government moved to Athens in 1834, Nauplia’s history has been less turbulent.
