2020 Objects to be Destroyed, Theresa Bembnister While she was an artist-in-residence at the University of Akron, Nina Katchadourian stealthily placed 13 stacks of books from the Akron Art Museum’s library on display behind the museum’s reception desk without alerting any of the Museum’s staff. These photographs document four of the piles, which were accompanied by a label drafted by the artist: “The books you see in this case have been selected from the stacks of the museum’s library. The books have been grouped so that their titles, when read from top to bottom, form short stories, aphorisms, or quasi-haikus. The sorting process is also a way of cross-sectioning the library; by extracting a few samples, it hints at what the larger book collection might contain.”
