More about the artist and DITCH:
DITCH allows viewers to peer into the world of Cherdonna Shinatra, the drag persona and alter ego of Seattle-based artist and dancer Jody Kuehner. The artist describes her work this way: “Cherdonna takes what you recognize about dance, what you believe about drag, what intrigues you about improvisation, and what delights you about entertainment, effortlessly tosses it in a mason jar, shakes it up, and opens the lid.” Together with her dance company, DONNA, Cherdonna balances tragedy and comedy. She cries, she laughs, and she clowns around—all in exaggerated style—to draw attention to her queerness, feminism, and what Kuehner has called the “existential dread” of contemporary times.
Jody Kuehner is a Seattle-based dance artist, director, and performance artist Cherdonna Shinatra. She is a queer, professionally trained dancer who uses clowning, drag, theater, comedy, performance art, camp, pop culture, gay culture, dance traditions, feminist traditions, absurdity, and subversive commentary to make art.
