Celebrate the opening night of the Museum’s new exhibition.

Be among the first to experience History Is Painted by the Victors, a powerful exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Kent Monkman. Through monumental paintings, Monkman reimagines history and centers Indigenous perspectives. Enjoy music, a cash bar, and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.

Postcards to Miss Chief

Use a typewriter or art materials to create a postcard for Miss Chief: the narrator, character, and Two Spirit voice in Monkman’s artwork. Share with her a thought or feeling that is surfacing for you. Write to her about something interesting or new that you saw. Tell her about a memory or experience that you recalled. Share something you’re inspired to do next.

Interactive Poetry

Contribute to an interactive online poetry project created by the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University, featuring Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise, curated by Kimberlee Medicine Horn Jackson.

Film Showcase

On screen in the lobby, enjoy a view into Monkman’s studio on film. Watch as the artist and their team create the massive, mesmerizing artworks you’ll see in the galleries.

About Justis Brokenrope:

​​Justis Brokenrope is the founder of Wathéča Records, a music archival project focused on the documentation of North American Indigenous musicians within the histories of rock, folk, and country music. Brokenrope seeks to ensure the accessibility and preservation of this music for the families, communities, and tribal nations they come from, while also highlighting the contributions of American Indian and First Nations artists in these genres by digitizing, curating, andplatforming their work through his NTS radio show, Wathéča Radio. Brokenrope is an enrolled member of the Sičháŋǧu Lakȟóta Tribal Nation and currently resides in Minneapolis, MN, where he works as an educator.
