Byron Sweet was born in Elyria, Ohio in 1900, and was a graduate of the Cleveland School of Art, now the Cleveland Art Institute. He was a lifelong artist who also played piano and violin. He started working at the Firestone Tire Company in 1929. He served as art director for their marketing department for 35 years. An accomplished artist, he once had an exhibition of his paintings of Italian scenes at the Akron Art Institute, now the Akron Art Museum. His watercolors were also exhibited in New York City. He was a member of the American Water Colors Society as well as the Akron Society of Artists, and served as a board member of the Akron Art Institute
