Tim Chesshir, born Stonewall Russell Wesley Jackson Chesshir, is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Columbus, Ohio. One of eight children, Chesshir dropped out of school in ninth grade. He worked in local slaughterhouses for the next ten years and played drums in several bands. Chesshir eventually left the slaughterhouses for personal reasons. After a lengthy hospital stay in 1984, Chesshir gave up drumming and started drawing. Chesshir’s early drawings were based on pictures he found in books of animals, birds and human faces. Later, as his work became more inwardly focused and intuitive, Chesshir used pen, ink, and marker to create highly detailed personal symbols to reveal his emotions and observations.
