More Information

“Ezra Pound’s portrait took more words than any other portrait I’ve ever done because of the hat, blanket, and general density necessitated by the image,” wrote Sokol. Pound, a twentieth century American poet, is considered to be one of the chief leaders in the development of modern poetry. Sokol took the words from Pound’s most important work, The Cantos, which were composed over a sixty-year period and called his “intellectual diary.”
