Calling themselves "the conscience of the art world," the Guerrilla Girls plaster the art neighborhoods in New York with their posters decrying elitism and sexism in the art world. These posters were not meant to be collected as art objects but rather to serve as instigators of social change. Seen in a museum, they become documentation of important art activity that occurs in the public arena rather than in a museum or gallery.
