Caption labels: "Kordofan. Province of the Anglo Egyptian Sudan. The Country that Time forgot. Slave drives drove the Nuba Tribes deep into the Jebel Country of the Sudan. There they sought self preservation, and there they build primitive homes. Throughout the centuries the Nuba tribes became de-centralized and the people inhabiting each individual group of Jebels soon developed their own characteristics. Each group adopted a language of its own, until today there are fifty groups. George Rodger of 'Magnum' visited the villages to show the simplicity with which these people live in a land which is a closed land to travelers without permits. "27-26: Delami is administered by Mohammed Ali Idris, seen on the right taking the parade of his local police force. All his policemen are ex-members of the Nuba Regiments of the Sudan Defense Force. The twin flags of the Condominium fly in the background.
