Renowned for photographs revealing power relationships at high-society parties, Larry Fink likewise documented gatherings of the blue collar neighbors he came to know following his move to rural Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. Many of these feature the Sabatines, a large family whose members seem unaware of the photographer’s presence as he records the range of emotions they express at their get-togethers. Fink comments that his work is sometimes mistaken for satire, countering that “the pictures are taken in the spirit of finding myself in the other, or finding the other in myself.”
