More Information

This photograph was created with images that Nagatani collected from the press. The containers on the truck each hold 14 50-gallon drums of waste and contain more than 15 grams of toxic plutonium. Exposure to 1-millionth of a gram can cause cancer. The roadrunner, seen dead here, is the New Mexico state bird and has religious significance for the Pueblo Indians. This road was once an important cattle trail. Today, cattle can no longer be found there.
