Nettles began to work with color photography for the first time in 1983. These works are from a series documenting a family trip to Florida in the fall of that year. The series title was inspired by the time of year and the collaboration with the artist’s daughter. Nettles has continued to incorporate her children and their artwork into her photographs throughout her career. Dye transfer printing is a complex process that requires patience, the use of multiple negatives, and as the name implies, transferring dyes in succession and carefully registering them on the paper. The resulting prints are among the most saturated and permanent of all color processes.
