This self-portrait, taken in 1929; Steiner describes as his "Sylph Portrait". "My hugging my camera says clearly (but differently from Decartes): 'I photograph; therefore I am, ' " wrote Steiner. "I would have been a mess my whole lifelong had I not been blessed by my ability to use my camera to speak for me."
