More Information

Mark-making stands out as a key element in this allover patterned painting. Composed of interwoven lines and brushstrokes of varying length and thickness, Field 1802 evokes an undulating impressionist landscape, yet the layering of color is more deliberate than spontaneous. Its convex construction adds to the illusion of depth that the artist created by allowing under layers of paint to show through in certain areas. The title of the work is short for “field of vision,” which the artist aims to activate by playing with the viewer’s perception of color.
