Merendino’s extended portrait of his wife Jennifer, consisting of thousands of photographs chronicling her 3-year fight against breast cancer, began as a blog they created to communicate from New York with family back home in Ohio. The series has had a viral impact. While these images are specific to this couple’s journey, they also speak to many others struggling with disease and life’s uncertainties. Jennifer’s expression and body language as she and her husband wait to meet with her doctor may seem all too familiar to those who have struggled with the difficulties of healthcare systems.
