More Information

Chase is well known for his still lifes and portraits painted with robust brushstrokes and deep colors. When painting landscapes, he employed more delicate tones and a lighter touch. The windblown terrain featured in this work resembles the area around Shinnecock Hills in Long Island, New York, where Chase summered and led his own art school during the 1890s.
