A unique and separate school of light artists evolved in California during the 1960s and 1970s. Sometimes referred to as "Light and Space," these artists became known for their large-scale environmental installations. One of them, Larry Bell, gnerates subtle nuances of light in architectural space by installing glass places coated with thin layers of crystalized aluminum and silicon monoxide.
