Robert Doisneau was one of France’s most popular and prolific reportage photographers. In his street photography, Doisneau captured everyday scenes of Paris life. Both staged and serendipitous, his shots depicted ordinary people engaged in their day-to-day activities with a playful sense of wit and affection. The title of this work, which translates to “the innocent one,” adds dark humor to the image of a man’s face-to-face meeting with the possible source of his dinner.
