More Information

King is seen here around the time he first attained national prominence. In 1955 Rosa Parks, a black resident of Montgomery, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a city bus to a white person. King, a young minister, gained recognition for his efforts in organizing a boycott that led to a 1956 federal court order requiring desegregation of the Montgomery buses.
