More Information

Mitchell was represented in the exhibition 'A History of Women Photographers' (organized by the Akron Art Museum in 1994) by a gelatin silver print of the romantic landscape seen here. The inclusion of this work led to a renewed interest in Mitchell’s landscape images, causing the artist to produce a photogravure edition of it and donate one of the images to the museum. Photogravure, a labor-intensive process that yields amazingly rich tones, was developed in the mid-nineteenth century to make permanent reproductions of photographic images. 'Live Oaks Intertwined' is one of 91 works that have entered the museum’s collection as a result of the museum’s leadership and dedication in organizing that groundbreaking exhibition.
