A leading British artist since the 1960s Pop movement, David Hockney is known for his prolific output in a variety of media. In his earlier work, Hockney focused on flattened human figures in colorful, sparse environments resembling wealthy residences in southern California. Later, Hockney turned increasingly towards unpopulated landscapes and imagined worlds as subjects, as in a series of prints he produced with Gemini G.E.L. press in 1993-94. The artist painted his print designs directly on mylar, resulting in expressive editions that combined lithography and screenprint in many layers to achieve a broad range of colors and textures. Going Round contains abstracted references to the landscape around Hockney’s Malibu home. Its dynamic, cyclonic composition in combination with its title suggests the repetition of modern life.
