Reflecting on the psychological aspects of interior spaces, Jenkins’s Fairytale images are un-altered photographs of still lifes she composed and captured on film. “The essence of a fairytale,” states the artist,” resides in the disintegration and re-invention of the boundaries of real and unreal, seen and imagined….” The artist cites the intersection of childhood and the adult world, references to the occult and the idea of unmasking, or the loss of innocence, as themes that surface in Untitled XLIII (43). Among the images that feature in this composition are a Japanese Kabuki performer on the television monitor and a photograph of artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 - 2010), whose work Jenkins greatly admires. The disembodied hand and wilting sunflowers lend a slightly sinister tone to the scene.
