The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), which was founded in 1924 and is currently headquartered in Pickerington, Ohio, authorized motorcycle racing and other activities throughout the country. Any club not affiliated was designated an outlaw club. The Chicago Outlaws, inspired by the Hells Angels, had just started to affiliate with other clubs that then became Outlaw chapters.
