More Information

This work is a lithograph depicting a United States Post Office in Amagansett, Long Island. This is one of a collection of 181 sheets of an offset lithograph that Steinberg owned. The purpose of these reproductions, made from an original drawing now in a private collection, is unknown. The original drawing was used in Steinberg's "Post Office" portfolio, published in The New Yorker on March 1, 1982. Steinberg had a country house in Amagansett, Long Island, and he received mail at this post office. The post office still exists, and images of it can be found online.
