5:15 – 6:15 pm
This performance by the Maza Napin Dance Troupe is made possible through support by the Art Bridges Foundation.
Join us at the Akron Art Museum for a dance performance from the Maza Napin Dance Troupe.
Founded in 1995 by Parnell Necklace and his children, the Maza Napin Dance Troupe carries forward a legacy of international Indigenous education and cultural sharing. Parnell’s teachings continue through his son Samuel Necklace, who now leads the troupe alongside his wife Tory, bringing their own children into the circle of dance, and community engagement.
Together, the family remains committed to educating audiences about Indigenous culture through dance, demonstrations, and speaking engagements. Maza Napin Dance Troupe often includes dancers from many tribal affiliations, with its core members rooted in Dakota, Lakota, and Ojibwe heritage.
The Maza Napin Dance Troupe performance will begin at 5:30pm and include an opportunity at the end for audience participation. They will also have a booth that evening to meet the public and distribute more information on their troupe and upcoming projects.
Stick around after for a performance from Umojah Nation, as part of Downtown@Dusk. Get free tickets for that perfomrance here.
