The museum collects John Sokol

Akron artist and writer John Sokol has received national recognition for his innovative painting, drawing and printmaking. This exhibition, on view in the McDowell Gallery, focuses on two bodies of work by the Canton-born artist. Word Works plays upon the idea of image and text while his Tar and Varnish series looks at the idea of myth. Despite the differences in style, subject matter and media in the two series, one trait is constant: Sokol's work is inspired by literature. This exhibition is organized by the Akron Art Museum.
