Akron, OH – The Akron Art Museum is excited to announce Jenny Gerow as its new Chief Curator. She officially began her role last week, bringing over 20 years of curatorial experience to the Museum.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jenny Gerow to the Akron Art Museum,” said Jon Fiume, the John S. Jenny’s innovative leadership will inspire our talented team and strengthen our mission to connect art and audiences through dynamic, meaningful, and future-forward exhibitions.”

Gerow comes to Akron from Brooklyn, New York, where she served as Chief Curator of Contemporary Art at BRIC. Her career has spanned multiple locales, including Brooklyn, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Detroit, providing her with a unique ability to think regionally and nationally about art practices and new models for nonprofit arts organizations.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me to support and grow the exhibition program at the Akron Art Museum,” Gerow said. “I look forward to utilizing my expertise in video and photography to enhance the already stellar programming and to deepen our connection with the community.”

Gerow earned her BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and her MA in Modern Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her wealth of experience and fresh perspective will be instrumental in shaping the Museum’s future.

In her role as Chief Curator, Gerow will lead the Museum’s curation and collections team, which includes Senior Curator Dr. Jeff Katzin, Curator Wendy Earle, and Collections Manager and Exhibitions Registrar Stephanie Petcavage.
