More Information

Boubat began photographing in 1946, the same year he met his future wife, Lella. Best known for images of children and scenes around Paris, he has focused on a very personal subject in this iconic portrait of his muse. Lella’s gesture and the gauzy fabric of her blouse recall a classical Botticelli beauty admired through the eyes and camera lens of her future husband. She is seen here on a summer day on the deck of a ship with her best friend Séguis just behind her. The couple married that fall.
