More Information

A few years after meeting and photographing Cindy Sherman in Akron, Frajndlich captured this image in her New York studio while on assignment for Vanity Fair magazine. Known for using herself as a costumed and posed model in her own photographs, such as the one looming behind her in this layered portrait, Sherman has rarely been photographed candidly. Even here, she carefully presents herself, seemingly taking on a dramatic persona for the camera as she holds props from her studio.
