Untitled is an example of Chesshir’s mature style where his personal visions are abstracted and rendered in acute detail. Chesshir is known for hiding images and patterns that recall natural forms in his art works. Here, the ornate patterns suggest plants and leaves as well as the human figure; lips and an eye can be seen on the left side. The strong contrast between black and white is reminiscent of woodcuts and linoleum prints. Untitled was featured in the exhibition “Recollections and Revelations: Self-Taught Artists from Central and Northeast Ohio 1850-2007” at the Cleveland Artists Foundation (now ARTneo) in 2008.
