Although this ink drawing is undated, it clearly depicts the artist later in his life. This self-portrait was given to the museum by Sommer’s friend and neighbor, Robert Bordner, who also donated the much-loved painting "Bordner Mural". In 1929, at the age of 62, Sommer found himself without a job as a commercial printer when the more efficient and cheaper method of off-set printing replaced lithography. Sommer was now able to devote all of his time to his art.
