Working in brightly-colored crayons and oil pastels, Hollis Sigler used a childlike style, known as faux-naïve, to narrate scenes from her own life while conveying broad, universal emotions such as grief, fear, joy, and loneliness. In She Wants What She Wants, Sigler depicts places and objects that hold special meaning for her: the beach, a candlelit table for two, an art studio. The title may be implying that these are things she is unwilling to relinquish; the things that bring her joy, the things that she must have. The purple, blue, and pink of the sky and frame are perhaps colors that create a sense of comfort for the artist.
