2020 Objects to be Destroyed, Theresa Bembnister A former electrician and contractor, Matthew McCaslin creates sculptures out of industrial objects such as cables, sockets, conduits, circuit boxes and fans. Through his choice of materials, McCaslin draws attention to the often overlooked details of the buildings in which we live and work. As suggested by the work’s title, he considers his selection and placement of cords to be akin to drawing. McCaslin included the clock as a measure of the passage of time and described the lightbulb “as a meter for the expenditure of electricity (energy being used up) and indirectly, a metaphor for one’s life.”
