More Information

Commissioned by the Akron Art Museum, Friedlander documented the decline of the industries of the Great Lakes region. In depicting the “Rust Belt,” he chose scenes that emphasized the urban blight around factories and the de-humanizing, mechanical nature of the factory jobs.
