The Island of the Moon (Isla de la Luna) is located in the southern part of Lake Titicaca between Bolivia and Peru. Along with the Island of the Sun (Isla del Sol), the Island of the Moon is home to more than 150 ancient settlements. According to archeological evidence, humans first occupied the islands around 2000 BCE. Later settlements include those of the Tiwanaku Empire (600-1100 CE) and the Incan Empire (1470-1532 CE).
