Fisher draws on his experiences in his native Texas in chalkboard paintings, multi-panel canvases and elaborate installations. In his work, the artist has long featured texts, including his own writings and passages from other sources. Fisher credits sources as diverse as the South’s vibrant literary tradition and artist Ed Ruscha with inspiring his interest in using language so prominently. The texts Fisher uses may or may not relate to his images, a deliberate strategy to challenge viewers to spend time with his work and come up with their own interpretations. Fisher often inserts old comic strip images and other nostalgic elements from his childhood into his compositions. Here, the cartoon character holding a gun and the acidic colors of the landscape add to the disquiet conveyed by the definitions and expositions on the word “end”.
