A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art who divided his time between studios in Cleveland and Southern California for a number of years, Scott Miller is best-known for dreamlike paintings that feature solitary male figures. His canvases, which he declined to title, address personal subjects, including mortality, love and the night sky. Miller described starting his paintings without preconceived ideas and allowing their abstract backgrounds to determine his compositions. His surrealistic paintings often fuse human, plant and animal forms, with lurid colors creating a heightened sense of otherworldliness.
