This drawing features an image of the artist traversing a wooded Northeast Ohio landscape dressed in a suit, subject matter he began exploring in a series titled Narcissus in 2008. While intensely autobiographical in nature, Ericsson’s work often elicits recollections of personal experience—a result of his complex process, which renders his imagery veiled or dreamlike. Ericsson created this drawing by transferring a digital photograph onto a silkscreen through which he applied powdered graphite to paper. Rather than transferring the image to the paper all at once, he worked in sections, adding or removing details by hand, erasing, stenciling, brushing and vacuuming to articulate detail and add tonal range. Despite utilizing the silkscreen, the completed work is largely the result of the artist’s hand.
