Sex worker + mother of two children, Lisa worked the mean streets of the Bronx, without a pimp. When I saw her standing under a street lamp while reading a book, waiting for a customer, I wanted to know her. As I spent many nights with Lisa and other prostitutes I would be afraid when a car would slowly approach turn off its head lamps and after a brief discussion, Lisa would disappear into a night hole. I kept thinking she deserved better, a fair chance to work in a safe place, to thrive and raise her children in a real home. Watching Lisa work, I knew what artist Tracey Emin meant when she said “my cunt was wet with fear.”
